Second Extinction - Savannah Biome (Art Direction)
Role: Art Director
This work covers an early build of the Savannah biome from the 2021 development.
The focus was to establish a strong visual identity while shaping the map around gameplay objectives and player movement. The goal was to create a space that reads clearly, feels distinct, and supports both combat and exploration through composition and environmental structure.
Key areas of focus:
- designing the map layout around objectives and player flow
- establishing a clear visual identity for the biome
- building strong compositions and readable gameplay spaces
- designing large-scale set pieces that alter the level in real time
- developing structure designs to support gameplay and narrative
- introducing new weather setups and time of day variations
In addition to directing the overall visual direction, I worked hands-on with weather authoring and time-of-day lighting setups, while also defining hero shots and improving compositions across the biome.
All final artwork was produced by the talented team at Systemic Reaction (Avalanche Studios Group).
My role was to define the direction, guide execution, and ensure the biome reads clearly and consistently in gameplay.
