Second Extinction - Atmosphere & Visual Direction

Lighting & Atmosphere Systems

Role: Art Director

A collection of lighting, weather, and time of day setups used to shape mood and gameplay readability across different scenarios.

The focus here is on how the atmosphere changes over time, not just how a scene looks in a single frame. Each setup is designed to maintain clarity during gameplay while introducing variation through lighting, weather, and environmental conditions.

Key areas of focus:

defining lighting direction for consistent readability
authoring weather systems to introduce variation without noise
building time-of-day setups with distinct visual states
shaping composition and mood through dynamic changes

This work reflects how visual systems are used to support gameplay, reinforce tone, and keep environments readable under different conditions.

The team produced all environments and assets.
My role was to define the direction, build the lighting and atmosphere systems, and ensure consistency across scenarios.
